Her ring earnings allowed Burke in 1943 to buy her first home, a bungalow in Los Angeles where she could have the semblance of a normal life. She sits on the porch, Wolfe sitting behind her with her brother, Louis, and mother, Bertha, while her son, Joe, rides a pony.
